New Year's Day Stroll

Unseasonably warm weather makes a stroll in Central Park irresistible.  But sometimes the weather isn't so kind.  A freak October snowstorm killed this big tree:

Destruction does create some beautiful patterns.

But ashes turn to ashes and dust to dust.  Twas ever thus.

I wonder if any of these trees were ever contemporary with the Park's designers?  No doubt about it, this pair created one of the finest achievements of the 19th century.

The carriages in their time were horse-drawn.  How come the bleeding hearts don't advocate on behalf of the pedicab drivers?  After all, they're human (which of course is a big part of the problem).

Blossoms in January.  Like I said, part of the problem.
