SE Coast Street (Mostly)

Even industrial areas can be photogenic when the light is right.  SE Coast Street runs along the railroad tracks in Lake Worth.

Lake Osborne Walk

Nature makes Lake Osborne a pretty place to walk although it's surrounded by houses and bisected by a couple of busy roads.  Until recently, a twelve-foot gator called it home, too.

Recreating the Pines Experience in January

"It's exactly like the Pines here!" Magda exclaimed as I served them pork loin sandwiches shortly after she, Joe, Dagny and even Moofy arrived at the Florida Folly for a restorative visit.

It took Dagny to get me to Benny's, the popular restaurant/bar on the pier in Lake Worth.  A passenger on Magda's & Joe's flight recommended it.

We hit the beach on a too-breezy afternoon full of blues and pinks.

Somehow, the goggles didn't frighten my namesake although she wasn't too crazy about the waves.

A day trip to Miami started in South Beach.  Joe had never been.  The spirit of Wynwood seems to be creeping in.

I hadn't walked the beachfront in years.  Much improved since my visits in the early 90s. Kurt Cobain killed himself the weekend of our April 1994 trip.

You now can book a room at Casa Casuarina, Gianni Versace's opulent home.  Ghouls and Eurotrash have replaced the Fashionistas who revived South Beach.  For my money, SoBe began to lose its edge after the release of The Birdcage in 1996 and Versace's murder a year later.

Still, the Art Deco pops against the winter sky.

Thank Barbara Baer Capitman for the preservation of the hotel facades.

Otherwise, South Beach probably would look more like this.

Next stop:  Wynwood Walls.  The Instagrammers have taken over since my first visit three years ago.

Doesn't Magda look radiant?  Motherhood suits her.  Most of the time.  ðŸ‘¸ðŸ‘¸ðŸ‘¸ðŸ‘¸

Here's Emma Gonzalez joining some pretty august company, although I'm not sure how the Lizard King fits.

So much talent on so fleeting a canvas.

An Art Hall of Fame line-up:  Andy,

Salvador,

Yayoi (who's also a dead ringer for Edna Mode in "The Incredibles"),

Frieda,

and Vincent, my fave.

Magda treated me to an artisan popsicle at Cielito.  Almost as good as the babka at Zak the Baker.  Why in the world don't they do bagels, too?

Christine said the birds were nesting.  Wakodahatchee Wetlands wasn't the right place but we found plenty of wood storks, the only stork species native to North America.

Some birds knew how to camouflage themselves better than others.

Cool camo on the reptiles, too.

Bridge reflection.

And by BTW:  when motherhood doesn't suit Magda, there's Joe, surely the most patient, loving Dad ever!

Left-behind munchkins tell me they'll all be coming back soon, perhaps with another little one in tow.  Because when you get right down to it, there's actually more to do here than in the Pines!
