Hamilton (4*)
It took Thom's 65th birthday to finally see Hamilton, the theatrical phenomenon about the semi-forgotten American Founding Father that even German producers have found worthy of translation! Although the rapturously-reviewed show opened nearly nine years ago, I have long resisted the ticket prices and hype. Fortunately Lin-Manuel Miranda truly is one of the freshest and most interesting voices of my lifetime and both the music and performances remain stellar. That said, the production lacked a certain freshness, mostly because its influence has been so pervasive, and it was hard to understand the rapped lyrics because of their density and speed. If ever there were a case to be made for supertitles in the theater, Hamilton is it.
