Park Appreciation

Tom agreed to rent bikes on Sunday, mostly because his tootsies hurt after too much walking in the wrong shoes.  We headed to City Park.  It's bigger than Central Park but hardly anybody was there on a warm, sunny afternoon.

Hurricane Katrina flooded 90% of the park with up to 8 feet of water, destroying the golf course and many old oak trees.  Only the hardiest survived.

One even sings, unbeknownst to many park regulars, none of whom could tell us where to find it.

Popp Fountain, built during the Works Progress Administration, survived intact.

We had free reign of Gormley Stadium, another WPA project.

Athletes decorated the gates.

The range of work beautifully displayed in the sculpture garden curated by the New Orleans Museum of Art came as a wonderful surprise.  With 60 artists represented, you're sure to find something you like.  Don't miss it.

Yank on her head and a bell used to ring.  No more--malfunction or political correctness?
