Gallery Hopper

Art galleries always have intimidated me. Do I really belong here if I have no intention of buying anything?  But that insecurity didn't prevent me from checking out a couple of shows in Lower Manhattan and on the Upper East Side, as different as their locations.

Jonathan Lyndon Chase:  his beard is soft, my hands are empty

Chase, a young Philly artist, explores black queer identity in both public and private spaces:  the barber shop and the living room.

Tracy Emin:  Lovers Grave

Once a revolutionary British artist, Emin, now 60, teaches drawing at the Royal Academy of Arts but her latest work hasn't lost its feminist sting.
