Atlas High

Changing weather and diverse terrain while crossing the Middle and High Atlas mountains relieved the monotony of a ten-hour drive from Fes to Merzouga, which borders the Sahara in southeastern Morocco.

Modern rest stops cater to the tourist trade with very clean bathrooms.  I remember when road travel in the United States was like this, too.

Relatively uncongested highways do little to prevent car crashes.  We saw two.

At times it looked as if we were driving through the American west.
