Meknes Wash-Out

We stopped for a lemon chicken lunch at Mhaya Village, a program for rural women and children supported by G-Adventures, our tour operator.

Kids now learn both Arabic and Berber in school.

Who can resist a puppy?

Our afternoon drive took us past a manmade irrigation lake, where a roadside vendor sold peanuts and pomegranate juice.

It poured in Meknes, a former Moroccan capital known for its gates.

We toured the enormous granary and stables built by Moulay Ismail during the late 17th century when Morocco's power peaked.

12,000 Arabian horses, long gone, helped the Berber kingdom keep the pesky Portuguese, Spanish and French colonialists at bay.
