In southeastern Colorado, we got within 18 miles of Four Corners, the only place in the United States where the borders of four states--Arizona, New Mexico, Colorado and Utah--meet.
The Navajo Nation maintains the actual monument. Shiprock, a distinctive rock formation, landmarks a small town in the area.
I couldn't tell if this sign belonged to one of those infamous boarding schools that tried to erase Native American culture from children who were snatched from their parents.
Another rock formation, also visible for miles, sits on Ute tribal lands in nearby Towaoc.
