Pastry and Dirty Politics

After Chris caught his train back to Prague, Tom and I rode the Ring Tram for nine euros, or a little more than $10.  The 20 minute ride circles the First District.  Meh.  At least it kept us dry in the evening drizzle.

Neither Tom nor I had much of an appetite so after returning to our hotel for a sightseeing break, we set off in search of an elusive Linzer torte.  But we did find a traditional Viennese cafe with delicious pastries in the neighborhood.  I had a caramel concoction.

Our tattooed waiter asked us about the American election.  No wonder.

When we told him we were with the mudslinger on the left, he beamed.  Oddly enough, he knew nothing about the imminent run-off between a liberal and right-wing candidate for the Austrian presidency, a largely ceremonial position.  The conservative, representing a party formed by the Nazis, had youth and looks on his side.  He still lost.
