Thanh Toan Bridge

In fact, we drove through rice paddies, flooded by the recent rain, to our final stop.

The water was deep enough for small fishing boats.

More pagodas en route.

Local villagers have maintained the Thanh Toan Bridge since the mid-18th century.

Grazing cows and fishing nets cast lovely, late afternoon shadows on the canal that the bridge crosses.

We'd be making our own hanging lanterns in a few days.

Wooden equipment like this, once used to irrigate the paddies, was exhibited in a nearby museum dedicated to rice cultivation.
