A Single Man (3*)

Simon Reade's adaptation of a Christopher Isherwood novel--not nearly as compelling as Tom Ford's 2009 film-- comes alive only in the second act when respect for the original text finally yields to some dramatic interaction among the characters.   An unconvincing and unsympathetic Theo Fraser Steele seems to have been cast mostly for his resemblance to Colin Firth but Miles Molan has charisma to spare as the seductive student.
